I've always thought that all of what we call "contemporary art", that we've created over the past 100 years, was made possible with continuous innovation in technology. An artisinal culture would not have made possible the art we have now, as it militates against technology. We'd all be pretty bored making the same things for the past 10 centuries. (But it is artisanal that can make the technology so much better.)
