Something can be truly random only if its starting point is not fixed. If everything starts at the same time as everything else, it is always in sync and not drifting. The big-bang theory is based on the premise that everything started in unison and moved in one direction. In that scenario, reversing the sequence will replay time, and you will re-experience each event in sync. If events start at different points, and drift in relation to one another, you have true randomness--and each event that happens to come into sync is a unique and exciting event. (7/2003)
