It's interesting that whenever there is an attempt to depict new technologies in fiction, the very act of suspending disbelief makes it seem plausible. What you really want is a suspension of belief with technologies like mind uploads that we can watch like videos. But at the same time, you want fictional scenarios to continually debunk faulty belief systems, in the hope that beliefs will be suspended. Dystopian science fiction put too much faith in that apparently. Look where we are.
