 I'm changing the phrase to “was supposed to be” and “the future” as opposed to “a future”. The MAGA movement is an example of something that is not working–at least in early 2025 in terms of revisiting a future vision from the perspective of the 1950s. Elon Musk is trying to recreate that future with various technologies like colonies on Mars or anything that was in a Popular Mechanics magazine from the 1950s. And it's just not turning out that way. Our visions of the future seem to always turn into dystopias, and we have to figure out why that's happening. We should want “a future”, which seems more hopeful than THE future, which seems more bleak.

  I believe I wrote this one around 2019 when AI music was more the warbly Daddy's Car. Obviously AI in 2025 has evolved and many people are making entire albums with it.
