Dynaxiom 3271-3280

3271. In a postmodern world, being too "inside" or too nice actually makes you too esoteric to be a celebrity. So you have to "go low" in order to achieve success. The fact that you were in a porn film or have prior criminal convictions puts you in a position of being a bad boy and a Jesus at the same time. It's a more exciting movie. I'm reminded of a debate I had about a movie I liked and the other person didn't. She said it was a yawn. So just being a person who likes the art of something makes you kind of a "boring" person. Jimmy Carter had an interest in politics as an "art", but we know how his character measures up with Trump. Jimmy Carter wrote a book about faith as a genuine interest, which is comparatively esoteric compared to how Trump uses religion to score political points with his base. It's all like something we saw in a movie. There was a shift in the 90s where there was more slippage between real life and "reel" life and now we feel like we're in one. The idea of metamodernism is a return reality and sincerity, in which you don't have to feel you have to be a celebrity and you can focus on skill and craft.

3272. This is how everyone constructs (and re-constructs) reality. What you thought at one point might not have any footing as time marches on].

3274. This is the problem minimalism has: it is seen as something anyone can do, or seems stupid--like Donald Judd's boxes or Sol LeWitt sculptures. Both artists were actually very specific about what they were doing--literally specific. Donald Judd's famous (in the art world anyway) essay, "Specific Objects" explained his philosophy. And yet the public sees plain boxes and things that look utilitarian--almost a readymade--like buying something at Home Depot and calling it art.

3275. While spiritualists and spiritual paths can be helpful, they don't fix reality, or make you any more capable of coping with your suffering, or helping others with theirs as much as you want to. At the very least, they make you a philosopher. Caroline Myss: "The way people suffer today is very different than the way they suffered before. The depth of suffering has shifted. Many people have become Seekers. Seeking has become mainstream and it wasn't before the nuclear age. We have morphed into people who are very monastic while not being in the monastery--very spiritual while not being religious. Our Inner Space is the New Frontier. Inner and outer space are the two new Frontiers, and so people ask questions that are actually prayers."

3277. Features can become fixtures. Over time as you try to fix them they also create bugs.

3279. What happens to a sound when it reaches 50? Was Big Band still relevant in the 1980s? The definition of nostalgia shifts with feelings of "missing out". Since many musicians were influenced by Big Band in the 80s and were still using those kinds of skills, there was no need for nostalgia.

3280. You don't want it to be too interesting because it might come across ass too individualistic. Personal interests can be perceived as selfish interests. To be popular means the main focus is on doing those things that other people will like. The downside of this is life diminished to fit in those boxes. This has an interesting connection to Judd's sculptures as a didactic metaphor,
