Social media is an easy way to try on new identity outfits to see what works, but that usually redounds to pandering or "selling out" to pop tastes, which then makes experimentation less viable, the primary reason for the new "looks". That's why David Bowie fiercely defended continuous experimentation. Social media post-dated him, but his avoidance of it is also strangely interesting given its capacity to make identity more malleable. (6/2016)
