Music is really all spiritual, regardless if it's associated with organized religion or organized anything, including the genre. I think music performance is a kind of "bulkhead", isolating and shutting off the neocortex. At least since the Enlightenment the arts have been a product of the cortex. African cultures are the opposite, but will change as they modernize.
