Recently, I was looking at a score of a Ravel string quartet. What I realized is that what a lot of guitarists do as a foreground performance is an inner part in a piece of classical music. In composition, there is a consideration what should be at the top: the melody. As long as there is some artful way of integrating the foreground an background in a guitar part, a musical experience has been created. Otherwise, it's just accurate typing.
