3/2025: New technologies seem to be predictable within the bounds of what we think humans are capable of both good and bad]. AI will go off the rails very soon if we use social media as the canary in the coal mine. Governments have typically been hands-off with the internet, which is what Section 230 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 was. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but must be amended or repealed given the state of the world. This is a good analogy for originalist philosophies about the Constitution: you can’t turn the clock back to pre-internet any more than you could turn the clock back to the 19th century. It’s absurd.
