The human Umwelt is different from what the universe “knows” or what organisms on other planets might know. Speculation about what that might be is where superstition is. We say that we “heard something” or “saw something” but why is it we don’t say that we simply “sense something”. All organisms sense something in ways we don’t understand and so we don’t completely understand their Umwelt. We think that they see and hear what see and hear so as to understand it at least at that level. But perhaps we don’t fully understand our own Umwelt enough to not succumb to superstitious thinking].
