The more people who dismiss all new technologies out of hand the more it's unleashed. Proactive use puts it back on the leash. We can make deep-fakes just as entertainment but it corrupts the better uses for tools. But is there really any good use for deep-fakes beyond entertainment? Even if you use it in film-making as a tool for art, it's still in the realm of entertainment. We'll be amusing ourselves to death as Neil Postman said in the 1980s.
