Perhaps in a postmodern world, we have grown accustomed to squelching cognitive dissonance so as to normalize life. By the time Andy Warhol was doing the disaster series of silkscreens, we were already desensitized by cinema, or simply seeing it as cool. I think there was a big mood shift around the mid-1960s where art was getting darker in mood, probably because postmodernism was really taking off. As I said before, I think it was an exciting time for art and music, and I was just getting wired into it
