Wars made everything in the 20th century possible. If there were no World Wars and the US was a peaceful nation, there would have been no rock'n'roll, The Beatles, pop art, interstate highway systems, fossil fuel extraction, military industrial complexes, computers and computer networks, the internet, and now AI. But wars don't change our inner lives, although it can enhance the inner life by the technologies war made possible. Without the industries that war made possible there would have been no music industry with it's manufacturing aspect: vinyl records, cassettes, CD, and the whole hit machine. Would I have liked music if all there were pianos and sheet music, and no recordings? It's an interesting question. Do inner lives rely on constant technical innovation?
